Renovation and Preservation of Home Built in 1790
Originally owned by a founder of UNC Chapel Hill, this Italianate building hosts a detached kitchenette believed to be the oldest brick building in Orange County. In reworking the structural components we discovered saw marks in timber from an old, hand cranked table saw. The entire first floor and exterior were renovated with careful attention to the original details. An wireless audio/visual security and speaker system was installed in the ceiling. The garage was newly constructed and a rear “moonscape” courtyard was installed. We built a free-standing deck that holds a swim spa to shrink the size of the swimming space without damaging the pool (believed to be the first pool in Orange County). Daniel Boone, an early visitor to the one-time inn would be pleased.
