Historic Preservation

Trinity Design/Build focuses on rehabilitating older homes.  What does that mean, exactly?  It means that we are committed to restoring the lovely houses built during the last century, making them more energy efficient while retaining all of their historic features and charm.  Just as the structures have served a century of families well, they can continue to be excellent homes for another century. The past doesn't have to be sacrificed for the future and the future doesn't have to be sacrificed for the past.

We are intimately familiar with all facets of the restoration process, from initial evaluation of an existing structure to the final details of appropriate paint colors and wallpaper. A renovation may entail discovering the original gracious spaces hidden in a rabbit warren of small rooms, finishing an empty attic or basement, or sensitively adding new spaces to an existing house, echoing architectural details along the way.  In any case, our goal is to create a functional, beautiful space for you and your family while preserving the history and architecture at the same time.

New life in an old vessel - that's what we do.

Tax Credits

If you are restoring a property that is on the National Register of Historic Places or is (more likely) part of a Historic District on the Register, you can receive tax credits of up to 40% of your restoration's expenses. We encourage everyone working on a historic property to consider the program for cultural and fiscal reasons.  Trinity Design/Build regularly completes tax credit applications on every project; following the State Historic Preservation Office's guidelines for rehabilitation is an automatic part of our design process.

Restoration Advice

We are happy to consult on conservation issues from the appropriate porch light to major restorations. At any stage of the project, even before you have firmly decided to purchase a ‘fixer-upper,' we can visit the site and evaluate its potential.

Similarly, if you are moving ahead with a renovation or addition, we can advise on historically-appropriate alterations and details, working with your contractor, architect, or designer to make sure that the new pieces fit in gracefully with the old. Finally, if you are seeking the preservation tax credits, we can counsel you on the rules that must be met in order for you to qualify for the incentive.
